This course is designed to help you reach a good level of English by focusing on the four key language skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. It emphasizes practical communication in both everyday and scientific contexts. You will learn commonly-used expressions and scientific vocabulary to communicate effectively in academic and professional settings. Additionally, you will review basic grammar topics to further improve your English. Given the global importance of English in science and engineering, this course will prepare you to confidently engage in discussions, presentations, and written communication.
Each week, you will attend a 2-hour class. These classes will focus on a variety of activities focused on improving your reading, listening, and speaking abilities, while building both everyday and scientific vocabulary, and strengthening your grammar skills.

COURSE CONTENT
Grammar and Vocabulary
Most weeks, you will work on key grammar points, which will be reviewed and corrected during class. You are encouraged to ask your teacher for help with any difficulties you encounter in these exercises. Both grammar and vocabulary will be assessed during internal assessments.
Grammar topics: Tenses, Auxiliary verbs, Question formation, Conditionals, Countable and Uncountable nouns
Listening and Reading Comprehension
These activities are designed to improve your comprehension of spoken and written English, particularly in scientific contexts, as well as in everyday situations. Short videos, audio clips, and articles will also be available here to help you practice these skills at home.
Writing Tasks
Throughout the semester, you will practice writing short essays on curent topics.
Oral Activities
Active participation in class discussions and oral activities is essential. You will also be required to deliver a 3-minute oral presentation on a current topic of your choice, which will help develop your public speaking and presentation skills.
Class will be conducted in person. Class material will be supplemented by resources available on Savoir platform, which includes video and audio resources, along with grammar exercises. Please note that several hours of independent study outside of class are required each week to reinforce the material covered in class.
1. Oral Presentation (3 minutes on any scientific topic of your choice) – 20% (Week 3 and 4)
